Getting People to Watch Your Video

Here’s the scenario: you made a video and you know it’s awesome. But how can you make sure people will actually stop and watch?

Unfortunately, there are no guarantees. But there are steps you can take to improve your chances of getting more eyeballs glued to your video.

1. Attention Grabbing Thumbnail

The first thing anyone will see is a preview image, so make it a good one. Pick something that’s alluring but still gives viewers an idea of what your video is about.

2. Catchy Title

Along with seeing the thumbnail, potential viewers will read the title of your video to decide if they want to watch. To create an intriguing title that is sure to attract clicks, provide the setup then promise the rest of the story will be revealed in the video. Bonus points if you can also guarantee an emotional reaction: “Best present ever – you’ll cry when you see what this girl’s mother bought her for Christmas”

3. Cut to the Chase

The first few seconds of your video are crucial. This is especially true on Facebook where videos autoplay. If you’re unable to engage someone right away, you’ll probably lose them quickly. A captivating introduction can make a huge difference.

4. Choose the Right Venue

You want to make sure you’re reaching your target audience, which means picking the right platform. YouTube is still king of the hill, but Facebook is gaining steam. Check out our blog post that breaks down the major platforms and where you should post your videos.
